About

Hailing from Chicago, Sean Huang is a growing presence in the Bay Area music scene.  He's studied with Andrew Dixon, Dann Zinn, and Christopher McBride, and has been under the tutelage of SfJazz and the Oakland public conservatory of Music (OPC).  Through the organization Jazz in the Neighborhood, He has played with the likes of Groupo Falso Baino, harpist Destiny Muhammed, and Edgar Pantoja's Afro-Cuban Tribe.  His independent groups have been all over the East Bay.  Pushing his own limits, he never forgets his roots and always searches for what it means to be a musician.

"I'm so grateful for everyone who's made me who I am as a musician, from organizations OPC and Jazz in the Neighborhood to musical heroes like Cannonball and Sonny Rollins.  I have to play, both to improve and to preform, because that's the best way I know to give back.  It's my way to leave my mark, my ideas, my philosophies.  My music is what it means to be me."

testimonials:

"Sean is the kind of the person who loves the art, both in performance and tutelage.  He's passionate about this music, loves teaching others, and loves playing.  Even when playing in foreign venues and with people he's never met (like when I saw him in Chicago), he still leads the band while giving others their own light" - Amy Oh, foothill graduate/violinst
